Stars from picture

Today was a quiet lazy day!  I spent most of the morning waiting for the clothes to dry on the line while another load washed. Yes, the dryer is still broke and DH won't spring for a new set. I tried to explain that in the long run that a new set would be better than an used dryer only.  Here's my thoughts: DD Lisa's washer is broken so she comes to our house to wash...double wear and tear on our washing machine & DS Xavier J. comes wash and dry here too...more wear and tear on our machines. Then DGD Kristin comes in ever so often from college and brings her dirty clothes...again more wear and tear on our machines. Equipment breaks when so many people use them especially since some didn't know how to baby the dryer. So if we buy a new set - washer & dryer then DD Lisa can have our old washer and she will have a working set. DS Xavier J. can fix almost anything with his father's guidance so he could probably get DD's washer and our old dryer to work giving him a set. Then our new set would last a long time. I think my logic is sound but DH doesnt want to spend money on a new set. So I am hanging my clothes on the line. It has a few benefits: exercise, clothes smell fresh, and less electricity. I am just glad that the washer didn't go out b/c DH would probably have me using a tub and scrub board. LOL!
The rest of the day, I spent trying to recreate a star that I saw somewhere and loved but didn't have a pattern.  It took me most of the afternoon to figure out the math for the pinwheel, half-square triangles, and flying geese, but I got what I wanted. It only took an hour to make the second mainly b/c I press slowly and took a root beer break.
Tomorrow is another clothes day...this time folding and saving. The Go cutter & my new dies (large tumbler and large drunkard path.) and charity quilt are calling my name too.  Next week we are going camping for 4-5 days so I need to put together kits to work on while there.  I also need to organize my sewing room hopefully before we leave. The twin bed that held all my projects has a new home with Spirit at DD#4's house. There was a lot of stuff on & under that bed that need new homes. I wonder if every one is as messy as I am when they sew! So much to do - what to do first!

Design Wall April 18, 2011

Soccer Power!
My design wall has had the same thing on it for a while - DJ's Graduation Quilt. Well, I finally finished all the piecing and now get to sew it together. I have decided to do it as a quilt-as-you-go just like I did Saints Super Star Season(SSSS) with a soccer ball in the 3/4 circles and in the ditch along the rays. I think I am going to do a pieced back of reds and blacks (left overs from Gavin's Graduation Quilt.) I know I am going to embroidery DJ's name and graduation date in the center ball with gold thread
I am also working on a pattern I found in Schnibbles times two called Little Red. This one is going to be a challenge because it comes out looking scrappy. I don't like scrappy but at least I have some control with this pattern. LOL
Saints' Super Star Season
I finally finished the binding on SSSS. It has all 19 scores from the 2009-2010 Saints' Season. I quilted it as I went so the backing is not in the usually rectangle or square pattern.  The center square was quilted first. I ran out of black/gold dimples and the local quilt shop didn't have any more. So I use another black/gold fabric for each of the triangle sides changing as I ran out.
The man/boy I made the quilt for refused it even at the very low price I set (b/c he was like family), and that made me very upset since I put a lot of time and effort in this quilt with him in mind.  'One man's trash is another man's treasure.' applies b/c my fellow quilters have put a very high price tag on it (more than I could believe). In fact, one lady asked me to make her a duplicate. Her offer was:she provide the materials and will give me $300.00 to make it. I am thinking about taking that offer. That guild also suggested that I put it up as a silent auction item at the guild's quilt show -they get 20% and I get 80% of the final price. Another idea I am thinking about, although DH likes the quilt and wants it for the RV. He's planning to wrap up in it while watching the Saints' games when we go to Abita Springs in the fall. That way the 'rich' folks will be envious of him. He is so funny!

Stash Report Sunday April 17, 2011

Stash Report
Fabric Added:    1.75 yards (There were cute fleurs de lis that just had to come home w/me.)
Fabric Added in April:  12.75  yards
Fabric Added YTD:      35.56  yards (That's 9 yds/month.)
Fabric Used This Week: 5      yards (Spirit's headboards covered)
Fabric Used in April:     22.5   yards
Fabric Used YTD:         95.06 yards (23.76 yds/m)
Stash Enhancement/ Busted:  59.5   yards

Even though I bought fabric this week, I did use some recovering the headboards for Spirit's room. I am now back to binding: 1) Tanya's graduation/bday quilt; 2) DD#1's strip sew-as-you-go quilt.
The fabric I will be sewing this week is guild fabric so won't count against/for my stash, but if I manage to finish binding Tanya's quilt then next week's numbers will be great.
DH and I went to Ms for the GSQA meeting and it was peaceful. The batteries still won't keep a charge but I prepared for that. All I need to pack is a battery powered radio to be able to truly dry camp.LOL
