Stash Report Sunday May 15, 2016

Oh, the places I have been; the things I have seen; the disasters I have avoided since last we blogged!
Monday, I worked on the t-shirt quilt and bindings on the two DGGD quilts. The youngest DGGD helped put the machine binding on her sister's quilt until she got sleepy. Then she bunched it up and went to sleep on it while I sewed. But it got done! That night we went bowl and the greats went to their Papa Beau's for the night.
Tuesday, I worked on the t-shirt quilt and finished J&B Block 9. Then at 9am we went to J&B to pick up DGGDs from their Papa Beau and get block 10. I really think that their grandmother wanted to fill my truck up with stuff for them. The back seat was full as was the bed of the truck.
After we got the girls settled in my truck, off to Tenn. we went. Driving with 2 small children, an old yorkie, and a 77 yo man is indeed an adventure as is getting everyone to sleep at night.
Wednesday, we made it to DGD#2s house and delivered the girls. Then we went eat at Olive Garden (a tradition), got gas and back to Louisiana we headed at around 4pm.
While coming home, the rain hit. It was horrible b/c you could barely see in front of you and Tenn. drivers do not know how to drive in the rain. As we went over an overpass, a young adult decided to go over the speed limit and started to hydroplane. He went in to a spin about 20 feet in front of my truck and went from the farthest right lane across the middle lane to the left lane and landed against the cement divide even with my truck and a car in the left lane. I applied brakes slowly so I wouldn't spin. Scary and almost a disaster!
Thursday, we spent the whole day driving and arrived home about 4pm.  The back of my truck is  still a disaster area! Marie had fun with the crackers her Papa Beau gave her! She also squirted juice all over the back seat and floor.
Friday, I finished up the t-shirt quilt and took DH to the doctor for his cough. We went eat out at our favorite place. Then I worked on the backing for the t-shirt quilt. (Which by the way, DD#1 did not like but her machine did ok on it.)
Saturday, that morning my nerves gave way and I had the runs all morning until the meds worked. Then I drove to DD#1s to get the t-shirt top quilted. By the way she did a great job even if she didn't like the fuzzy backing! Lessons learned- never allow a non-quilter to pick the backing for a quilt. Also charge extra if non-quilter cut t-shirts first!
DD#1 also gave me several quilts to bind for her and thankfully only 1 is by hand. She  also finished the green zebra quilt except for binding. That quilt for some reason gave her machine fits. The front is perfect, but the back has a few problems. It doesn't worry me or DH b/c it is for the couch to help brighten up the room and protect it from the dogs.
DSIL cooked steaks and they were fantastic. I picked up my Phaff quilting system so I can try quilting small tops myself. Watching DD#1 and her DH take the system apart was quite a funny experience. I didn't get home until after 10pm. I was exhausted!
Sunday(today), I have picked up DD#4 at 6am and am binding the t-shirt quilt so it can go to its owner this afternoon. I also want to use the left overs to make a lap quilt to use at early spring baseball games.

  1. Wow, what a week! Highway driving can be very dangerous. Glad you were able to avoid disaster. We were driving back from Oklahoma City on Sunday, some semi parked on the shoulder just suddenly started into traffic from a stand still just three cars in front of me. We were all at highway speeds (75 in OK). It was amazing that none of us ended up in an accident.
