Stash Report Sunday Week 18 April 30, 2011

   Report
Fabric Added:    2 yards (gifted to me by Dottie for Sammie's graduation quilt)
Total Fabric Added in April:    14.75  yards
Fabric Added YTD:      37.56  yards (That's 9 yds/month.)
Fabric Used This Week:  2      yards (signature block fabric)
Total Fabric Used in April:          25 yards
Fabric Used YTD:         78.06 yards (last week had miscalculation)
Stash Enhancement/ Busted:  42.5 yards (That's 10.6 yards a month)
I didn't go to a quilt shop this week. But I still gained 2 yards of fabric b/c a friend found the perfect fabric to include in my DGD#2 (Sammie)'s quilt so she gifted it to me. It is indeed perfect for the halloween themed spider web (octagon) quilt Sammie wants.
Leeapaul sporting his new do
My BFF came here Thursday and we sewed all afternoon. She decided to make a quilt for a young lady who is getting married on May 21st.  The plan was to  have the wedding guest sign individual blocks. Great Plan! Yet if you know my BFF then you know that in 4 years of quilting she has not finished a quilt or even made a top. Oh, but she has a stash to die for - coordinated fabrics with patterns to go with it. Enough fabric to make the whole quilt and then some for error.
Lilly watching Lee and Lorenzo
So she brought 256 Bella Natural 5" blocks to my house and we picked fabric (2+ yards) from my stash to make the corners.  Now the young lady has 250 formally invited guests and many more casually invited guests.  My BFF can only come here on Saturdays which gives us 2 Saturdays to get these made.  So far we have 70 signature blocks made and 140 bonus half-square triangles. I believe we will run out of corner fabric before we get to 150 signature blocks. But not to worry, we have a back up plan - actually three: 1) use all those bonus triangles; and 2) prepare some just plain Bella blocks; 3) first come first sign and when the blocks are gone, we are done. I have a feeling that we are going with #3. LOL

Leeapaul's New Do

Before haircut
Scruffy but elegant
After 6 years of my brushing and pulling burrs out of Leeapaul's fur, I finally got my husband to allow me to have his hair 'trimmed.'  So off to the groomer he went.
A little more hair came off than a trim. I barely recognized him when I picked him up. You can't see skin but it is fairly close. My eldest four-legged child went from a scruffy wild haired cur to the well groomed champion that we knew he was. LOL
After haircut
As you can tell, Leeapaul does not like his new look and neither does Pape. But I love it since he went chase the cows right after the pictures and no burrs stuck to him. Only I knew he was mostly hair but never thought he was that small. Even my chug is 'bigger' than Lee. As soon as Lilly is thru with all her heartworm treatments, she will be visiting the groomer for the same cut. As for LuLu, the shorkie, she will be getting a homemade haircut by me in the next few days. She has too many burrs to go to the groomer. Lorenzo, the chug, already has this do.
Now if I could only get DH to agree to allow me to "trim" about 12 inches off my head. Naw, we both like my long hair and it has gotten to the double braid stage - ear to ear.LOL

New (to me) Dryer

I am so excited! Today was a very laid back day for me--emotional stress takes more out of me that physical labor. The last 2 weeks have been so full of drama that I haven't slept well at all trying to make sense out of it all. Came to the conclusion that there is no sense to be found. Monday night did not bode well for sleeping at all since drama lasted until 1am and loud thunderstorm started around 3:30 and I had to be up for 6am. Tuesday was so full that I saw myself coming and going...I made 3 trips to Lewisburg and traveled over 250 miles going nowhere special. Tuesday's activity lasted until 11pm and I zonked out until 8:30 am.
First thing that greeted me was a flooded spare bathroom. I cleaned up the water and then sewed a while and started playing Words with Friends with DD#1,2,&3. By 12noon I was tired and nodding, so I went to take a short nap. My nap lasted until almost 6pm. In that time DH had the broken dryer checked and replaced and dried a load of towels. He also fixed the sump pump so that the toilets drained and has been working on fixing the leak in the toilet. It seems some washer on a screw is not holding water. He also went help move a large tree that came down during the weather last night. (I didn't hear it!)
I woke up to all these surprizes and he came home with food, strawberries, Pibb, and chips. He is so wonderful. I think he was making up for us not going camping this week. I am not telling him that it is ok b/c instead I will be sewing with bf Pam tomorrow and having steak dinner on him. LOL
Sometimes it is good to sleep like a baby and wake up to a new fantastic adventure. Life with the Stellys' is definitely an adventure!

Plans

Plans for this week are:
1) Make 5 potato bags -2 for DSD#1; 2 for pay; 1 for friend.(Update:Made 3 out of 5. Delivering 2 for pay to DD#1 and one for friend today.)
2) Cut scraps into usable pieces. (Update: My boxes of 1 1/2; 2; and 2 1/2 are getting full!)
3) Work on DGS#5's graduation quilt.(Due May 31st)
4) Embroider labels for 3 quilts.
5) Bind DD#2's quilt. (Due May 10th)
6) Work on QGA books.(Update: Still need to do this! Pronto!)

The Drama King struck Sunday afternoon. His beef was with my apparent lack of respect for him. Although I have rehashed the whole event, I can't see why he became so dramatic or felt he was disrespected except that he didn't get his way. DD#3 wanted to protect me when he was invading my personal space by getting in between. She wasn't too happy when I explained to her that I could handle the Drama King...needs audience. Remove the audience and you remove the drama!
The Drama Queen decided not to be left out and struck last night. She has a cyst on her ovary. This is a very painful thing and requires rest to allow the medication to work. It is not instant! She wants instant. She came over yesterday afternoon trying to get DH to drop everything and take her to hospital. It was bowling night and anyone who knows DH knows that nothing interferes with bowling night. She took herself end of drama, Right? No, she called the Drama Princess who is 65 miles away complaining. So Drama Princess called DH. After bowling, we went get stuff she 'needed' at her house (20 mile round trip), to both hospitals since she told us the wrong one, and finally to the hospital she was at. They ran tests and the results showed that one of the cysts was gone and the other had shrunk tremendously. Results: 1) You are not dying; 2) You don't need emergency surgery; 3) Go home and take medications as prescribed; 4) No stronger pain medication.  Where's the drama in that! Not the results she wanted so she got mad and stormed home with us following with DGS#9.
Finally at 2am last night we got to bed only to woken up at 4am with a very loud violent thunderstorm. Then up at 6am to try to do what needed to be done last night.  I got half done.Still have lots to do (dentist for DH and meetings for me) so I had better get moving.

This has been a lazy week where sewing is concerned not that I didn't sew but I just was lazy. I didn't work on binding at all this week even though I have DD#1's quilt to bind and DD#2's quilt to bind. I didn't work much on DGS#5's graduation quilt either. Sometimes you just need to rest. The fact that my sewing room looks like a war happened with fabric as the ammunition was NOT the reason. It always looks that way. I just needed to step away and reevaluate.
Raising Dats
Easter Sunday - a day of rejoicing and rest. Well, after a very late nite or early morning bedtime(DH keeps strange hours as a nite owl), I was awaken by my dogs barking b/c DD#4 wanted a kittenWe found 1 of the 4 dead so we removed the other 3. The wildcat mom was no where to be found. DD#4 took 1 and the other two are being taken care of by Lillie. Her only problem with them is that they won't stay in the bed. So off to the corner with the lot. lol   Update: MomCat is back and wants the 2 kittens. Lilly says NO! It should be interesting as to who gets to raise the kittens.
