Stash Report Sunday Week 23 June 5, 2011

Sunday and Monday I finished another binding so had a finished quilt to show at QGA. Tuesday after the QGA meeting, I went to BQ, the local quilt shop, and found 4 fat quarters that I really liked. 2 will become potato bags to sell at the KS Quilt Show on July 9th and 2 will become part of the stash. I bought more fabric but most of it went home with my daughter - some for a quilt she is planning with dots and some for a shirt/dress for DGD Spirit.
The QGA speaker, Joe Cunningham, was good. His musical history lesson was funny and his quilts are very artistic. But the pews were hard so the enjoyment was not what it could have been!

Stash Report:
Fabric Added this week:    1 yard ( 4 fat quarters.)
Total Fabric Added in May:    13  yards
Total Fabric Added in June: 0 yard
Fabric Added YTD:      50.56 yards (9 yards a month ugh!)
Fabric Used This Week: 10.5    yards
Total Fabric Used in May: 23.12 yards (two quilts finished in May)
Total Fabric Used in June: 0 yards
Fabric Used YTD: 103.18 yards (that's 17 yards per month used)
Stash Enhancement/ Busted:  52.62 yards (That's almost 9 yards per month busted.)
There shouldn't be any fabric added this next week since BQ meetings with my daughter or BFF are not planned. Oh, wait! I get a fat quarter for my b-day at the KSQG and hopefully I will win the Lotto blocks or a door prize as a b-day present.
While I don't plan on buying any fabric, I do plan on using at least a yard on potato bags and swap blocks. I also plan on starting the quilting on DGS#5's graduation quilt. I am late with this one - it just isn't turning out how I want or I lost interest since I didn't get to see him graduate. But I promised it for his dorm room so it will get done.
Lator Gators! May the fabric you desire find its way into your stash before you need it. Keep 2011 Stress Free!

Friday and Saturday Blues

Thursday we came home from a Toastmaster's meeting and pizza with DGD & boyfriend to find the central down. DGD got the two fans on her and we put on our fan. It was slightly hot but we all survived the night. Friday, I flipped switches and DH replaced fuses and we had air conditioning all day long. I was very happy about that since I had my second daughter's children. They were not too happy with the fact that we spend so much time outside or that we keep the house at 80. Friday was hotter than Thursday so we needed that cool air.
Friday night DH, DGD, and I decided at about 6pm to go to the horse races and eat at the casino. We had fun and my long shot "Smart as a Whip"(my maiden name) came in 1st. But we came home at 11pm to a hot house b/c the air was off again. Friday night was not comfortable at all. This morning DH called the air conditioner man to walk us thru the repair on the phone with no luck. It took Mr. Kenneth  all afternoon to figure out why wasn't power. He says we had a short caused by all the power surges we have been experiencing. I say that the demon squirrels hit again. Either way it is now fixed.
DGD asked to take the Element and go bowling in Lafayette with her best friend. We said Yes since she will be getting the Element in August to drive herself to school each day and it is coming soon. It hasn't rained in a long time so you would think it would be safe to assume it wouldn't rain. Think again! That is when God played his trick...she was gone about 15 minutes when a massive thunderstorm hit. Trust! My stomach was doing flips until she called letting me know she was safely there. It did the flops when she called to say she was on her way back 3 hours later. TRUST in God to keep her safe and sound. She made it safely and never had any rain there or back just winds that kinda scared her. She told me she rathers drive with someone in the car than alone. Lesson learned!
Tomorrow I will sew...I will! House is cool, visitors are gone, DSS does not work on Sunday so no construction to oversee or dad/son arguments to calm so it should be a good day to sew.

June

Oh! How I wish Blogger, My Computer, and My Iphone were working together again. My Computer won't recognize my Iphone except to charge it. It is the dickens to get pictures on Facebook and near impossible to get current pictures on Blogger. UGH!
June is known as the month of birthdays. They start on the 1st and end on the 20th and some days have 3. Happy Birthday to my family!
#8 BOM Stars
Judy L. picked #8 as the UFO of the month.  BOM Stars was a history associated with it. My favorite quilt shop closed after 4 months into this BOM. We received all the BOM packets and the finishing packets. But the fun was gone! So it got put on the back burner to be finished at a later time. It will be finished by May of 2012 b/c it is for a graduation quilt, maybe. (I have to finished DGD#2's spider enhanced spiderweb graduation quilt by then too complete with the yo-yo spiders. DGD#2 has collected Halloween fabric ever since she saw the airing of that quilt on Alex Anderson's show. She has quite a bag. LOL)
I haven't finished UFO's that were picked in March (#1 DJ's Graduation Quilt based on Judy Holly's New York Beauty class) or April (#4 Antique Cats to learn how to make "no waste flying geese" in odd sizes) or May (#9 Charlotta Angotti's Mystery #2 from a workshop in Lafayette). I have been working on DJ's graduation quilt (along with lots of other small projects and lots of binding-down to the last one but it has lots of sewing) and am at the point that I am ready to start machine quilting. His quilt wasn't ready for graduation but will be ready when he moves into the dorms for the fall semester.
DJ's Quilt
Now I have decisions! I know that I must work on DJ's quilt and I have a Jodi Barrow workshop & a Krewe of Quilter's workshop in June and a GSQA workshop in July. I also have lots of swaps to complete and the Krotz Springs Quilt show in July. Do I want to work on those or work on those UFO's that I put aside? Ugh!
Last night, May 31st, I had the privelege to watch Joe "Joe the Quilter" Cunningham perform. He gave the lectures at the QGA meeting. He was funny/goofy and his songs were great. He also offered 2 workshops on handquilting - 1 was from 1to5 and today's is from 9 to 5. I didn't take either since Art Ritis has come to live in my hands and hates making tiny stitches  although Joe Cunningham's stitches were even but not tiny and at times quite large (3 or 4 to top inch). He gave me hope of being able to do it again.
Well, time to get cracking. I have to supervise construction of my screen porch; clean the den so that DGD#2 can move in for summer; work on SWAP blocks; work on LOTTO blocks; and work on DJ's quilt. Busy Busy Busy! And I wonder why I get so tired!
