Stash Report week 4 2011

Really like this fish border
fabric purchased for wedding quilt
I tried! I really tried! I hunted in my stash and found some fish border fabric but there was only 2 yards of it. I needed a minimum of 3 1/2 yards. So I bought 4 1/2 yards to use.

The Krotz Springs guild is doing "Wonderful 1 Fabric Quilts by Kay Nickols" on February 21st. It seems to be easy with complicated results which are the kind of quilts I like.
Stash Report:
Fabric Added This Week:  -4.5     yards
Fabric Added YTD:           -5.81   yards
Fabric Used This Week:     0.93   yards
Fabric Used YTD:              7.295 yards
Reduction/Enhancement:  1.485 yards

My numbers don't look like I have been working but that is because I don't count quilts until they are quilted, bound, and labeled. So all that is counted are 3 potato bags. I have several projects that will increase my numbers hopefully before February. Some just need for me to sit and sew binding which is usually a joy but lately a chore. LOL
1) "Saints' Star Season" is in the process of being bound. I stopped working on it after the young man went back on our deal. It is sitting in the corner waiting for binding. My DH has claimed it as his and my DSIL, Brian, has put in a bid for it too. (est.10 yards)
2) My DD#1 has "Palmetto" and is custom quilting it. I figure she will get it done by next Saturday since she has 2 others to get done in early February. It is my UFO #6 for the Judy L. Challenge. (est.7 yards)
3) "Frogs for Spirit" is also waiting for binding. I have been cutting and sewing the binding. That quilt has such an interesting history. It was started by my youngest daughter who soon found that she doesn't have the patience or knack for piecing. Then it went to my oldest daughter to be 'fixed' after which it sat in my sewing room for 2 years waiting for quilting. When I gave the quilting frame and Phaff to my oldest daughter, the quilt went with it. She quilted it and now it is waiting for binding. (I can't count much of this one since I don't remember if DD#1 used the backing I provided or not. (.5 for binding))
4)Carol Hilton, longarm quilter, gave me my "Orange Tom Cat" back Thursday. It was with her since July. Next week I will work on giving 'Tom' a face, ball of yarn, and a small mouse not to mention putting the binding on. It is adapted from a pattern my mom crocheted for my girls when they were young.(est. 7 yards)
5) I have been working on Tanya's Graduation Quilt-adapted from "Auld Lang Syne" by Cate Tallman Evans and all the blocks are now done in a larger version. I will be working on the red border and finding a final border to complete it hopefully by Tuesday. (est. 5 yards)
I will show pictures tomorrow on Design Wall Monday.
Well, Lator Gators! Have a blessed Sunday and may the fabric you need find its way into your stash before you need it.

Fabric Found

Well, I started sorting bins of fabric. I found a small bag of the fabric I needed. My DD#1 also looked in her stash and found 2 yards of the fabric. Now I have a big mess in my studio because I haven't finished sorting all my fabric by color.
Sorting your stash really makes you take a good look at yourself and your stash.  I learned that I really do not need to buy any more fabric for a long time. Red, black/grey, and assorted panels seem to have taken over my stash. I especially don't need to buy any more red. Pink is even represented and I don't even like pink. Lots of teals, blues, browns and earth colors but very little yellow and neutrals.
I have only one problem with my stash sorted and neat. It allows my DD#1 to come shopping in my stash. Oh, well! You solve one problem to create another! Having DeeDee shop in my stash is not that large of a problem, since she doesn't come to my house but maybe twice a year. She also does all my quilting now so I guess a little fabric is worth the great job she does.
Well, I am off to finish sorting fabric and to cut 2 by 2 1/2 inch squares to finish Tanya's quilt.
Lator, Gators. Have a blessed day and may the fabric you need migrate to your stash before you need it!

Design Wall Week 4 1-17-11

Just need 2by2 1/2 squares
Looking for this
Right now on my design wall, I have Tanya's Graduation Quilt. I have a small problem which could become a large problem. For some reason there were not enough squares cut from the black&silver fabric. I am taking my sewing room apart since I know that I have more of this border type fabric somewhere. If I can't find it, then I am hoping that it fell out in the RV cabinet and is waiting for me there. If not, then hopefully someone has some and is willing to trade for it.
KSG block
I also have the KSG lotto blocks to complete. Isn't that Mardi Gras fabric fun! I am thinking of pairing it with a light shade of green for one and a orange for the other.
6 done 6 to go
Then I am working on 12 Tater bags.  I downloaded a tutorial by Sherry Titzer - http://www.atimetostitch.com. I adapted it according to my needs and understanding. I made bags for Christmas presents and 2 of my daughters asked for more bags since they cook for 4+ people and one bag doesn't do well. The bag gets too hot and scorches. A new friend made at Quilt Camp wants 2 that she will pay me for. She wants a tutorial for the bags so I am working on one that is simply to follow since she is a brand new quilter/seamstress.

Stash Report week 3 2011

Stash Report
Added this week:               -1.31   yards
Used this week:                   1.24   yards
Added YTD:                      -1.31   yards
Used YTD:                          6.365 yards
Reduction/Enhancement: + 5.055 yards

I did not buy any fabric this week. Actually, that is not true. I bought 2.25 yards for 2 friends at quilt camp when I went to the BQ for thread and Tater Batting. However, I won a panel at the KSG meeting and a friend at Quilt Camp gifted me the material to make 1 potato bag when I found that I had to be creative with the last bag by piecing fabric for the top and bottom pieces.
Quilt Camp was loads of fun and I sewed on Tanya's Graduation Quilt until I ran out of cut fabric. Seems that Tanya and I can't count correctly and didn't cut enough of one square. So I will find the fabric later and cut them. That quilt is really a wall hanging! It is coming out beautiful.
Well, I am not feeling very well at the current moment so I am going lay down for a nap.
Lator, gators! Have a blessed day.
